I’m based in the UK and a number of our species are not listed. it would be great if we could list them. I love the site and the iphone app.

Have you tried checking by genus and species? I think the list is international, but imagine Ben will comment on this.

Ian – could you send us a sample of some of the species not listed? Thanks for the feedback on the site and iPhone App. If you get a second, could you go to itunes and write a positive review? Someone gave it 1 star based on the fact that you had to be a Birdpost user to use it!

Like Ian I am having difficulty in identifying European species from American names. Today I tried to enter up Pale-bellied Brent Goose (Branta hrota) but was only given one option, namely Branta bernicla, which in Europe is the Dark-bellied Brent Goose. To add to the confusion we also have a third sub-species here in the U.K., namely Branta nigricans or the Black Brant. The website accepted none of these so I had to make do with BRANT.

Great feedback everyone. We will shortly be implementing a feature where you can add birds by scientific name as well as common name – this will help everyone involved. Obviously, some taxonomies, like Clements, don’t list sub-species so if you are trying to upload those it won’t work.

I have tried to add a Rufous sided Towhee, have even added the latin name and have added finches, all to no avail. should I try fringillidae? I have had 2 here for some weeks now and one has only one leg!

That particular bird is not in the Clements taxonomy, to my knowledge.

Maureen, the Rufous-sided Towhee is listed as an Eastern Towhee, I believe. Is that one of those name chages?
