What are you referring to with "Proximity"?

Quite honestly I don’t understand what are you referring to with “Proximity” in the Rare Bird Alert. Proximity from what and with respect to whom? I’m worried it won’t alert me at all if I just put a distance without knowing what you mean.

By the way, this site is awesome. Has it been around for long or is it new?

Hector – we just launched the site a few weeks ago and are making a lot of enhancements in the weeks/months to come. Thank you for being such an ardent supporter of the site.

“Proximity” refers to the distance from a given location. If you set your home address as the starting point for your rare bird alerts, then the “proximity” refers to the distance from that starting point. You can set alerts for 50 miles from your home, for example, and you will get an email if that bird is sighted within 50 miles of your home.
