Mapping multiple species at one location
|
|
I was wondering if anyone had tried mapping several species at one map point. For example if I click on the map to add in a species sighting, and lets say that I had seen 6 species at that spot, it would seem that I have to go through the process 6 times to add them all in. Is there an easier way to do this? Second to that, if I have already created a map point on the map, is there a way to tap into that location to add additional species at a later time? |

Peter – great question. To add multiple sightings of the same species in a general area on the map simply select “Add Details” on the map pop-over and then enter the “Quantity” of birds and set the proximity. I regularly see hundreds of the same species of shorebird and it makes no sense to report them separately. As to your second question, to find past locations on the map you can either search for the area through a traditional search or go through your past sightings to link back up to that area. Hope that helps! Ben Crockett |

Ben,I think that Peter is talking about multiple species at the same location, not the same species multiple times. I also have the same question. I would like to be able to add several types of birds to the same location. It would save much time and effort. |

Brenda - Thanks for the feedback – Peter’s point is a good one and worth considering. We have always wanted to inspire our users to report their sightings onto the map with as much accuracy as possible and I suppose a user could simply report many birds in the same general location all at once. We will kick this around among the team. GREAT FEEDBACK PETER AND BRENDA!! Ben Crockett |

I, too, would really appreciate the ability to list all the different species seen in a location. With unreliable internet connections (and the general “Beta-ness” of the site) using the mapping feature is VERY tedious. I would really like to use it, and try to when I can, but when I go out on a day where I see 20 or 30 different species within a small area, I just don’t have the time or patience to sit and enter each one individually, especially since the map application often freezes up or is generally slow to load. Thanks! |

We will be uploading this feature, allowing our users to report many birds on a single map marker, in the next few weeks. Thanks for taking the time to write. Ben Crockett |
