All-time and Yearly Rankings

Perhaps one way to motivate posters is to make the Rankings by Year. We all start back at Zero sightings for 2009. However, there should be an all-time leader board for those with the largest lists overall, etc.

Eric – you should join the Birdpost team with feedback like this. In 2009 we will launch a “Community” page with a wide array of community rankings, data, etc. I too am anxious for this page to launch!

The two most common lists kept by birders are probably life and year, followed (in the U.S.) by state, and North America. Many birders also keep county, backyard, feeder, and nesting lists, sometimes others and sometimes in various combinations. At the very least it should be easier in this site to differentiate between life and year sightings. When I first signed up I was presented with a random gallery “Which birds have you seen?” (or something like that). So I clicked on Brown Pelican, which I’ve seen many times. However Brown Pelican now appears on my undifferentiated list along with 2009 sightings. The individual user list view should have a “filter by” option such as “life” “current year” etc.

Paul – this is great feedback. Adding a “sort by year” has been an idea we’ve planned to implement for some time and likely will soon. You can always “tag” your sightings to create any number of lists within your lifelist.
