Birdpost API

I’d love to see an API for Birdpost (either a RESTful API, SOAP, etc) similar to Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr. That way, developers and other tech savvy members of the site could integrate the data into other applications. Just think of applications: blogs, Facebook profiles, desktop gadgets, all exposing information about recently seen birds (and driving more traffic to the site). Developing an API will allow others to develop tie-ins to the site, so you guys can focus on making the site itself better and better. |

Also, I think RSS feeds would be a related request, and perhaps a more reasonable request in the short-term. I know how much work goes into designing an API. For RSS feeds, I am thinking that a generic approach would work great: allow access to an RSS feed of any user’s sightings, as well as an RSS feed for any region. Having these could jump start the use of Birdpost data outside the site. I can see many of the users on this site using the RSS feed to show their recent sightings on a blog or personal website. |

Dan – thanks for the feedback – we will be launching RSS/APIs in the next 3-4 weeks and will let you know when we do. We completely agree with your feedback. Expect it shortly… Ben Crockett |

Great, I look forward to trying them both out! And I also should be able to help out and write a library or two and share them, so that others can integrate BirdPost data quickly. |

Has this been released yet? I would be very interested in any info on this. |

Feeds for regions and personal pages will be launched within one week… |

How about the API? I’d love to integrate it into some sighting applications I’m working with. |

so, uhhh. it’s been over a year since the Admin said we’d have RSS in one week… any updates on that? |
Tell us any ideas you have about how we can improve or simplify Birdpost!
